Cecil Aldin - The Art of Black Beauty

An exhibition of beautiful watercolours by Cecil Aldin who was commissioned by Jarrold & Sons to illustrate the 1912 edition of Anna Sewell’s much loved classic novel. Thirteen paintings depict scenes from the book, and have rarely been exhibited. The exhibition is free with museum admission and throughout the school summer holidays there are family activities.

A Celebration of Architecture

Celebrate the Festival of Norwich and Norfolk Architecture (FANN17) in one of the oldest buildings in the city. Students from Norwich University of the Arts and architects from award-winning local architecture practice LSI Architects, invite you to sketch a slice of the 360 degree view from the top of Castle mound – suitable for older children and adults - equipment will be provided. The completed panorama of the Norwich skyline will be displayed in a specially designed suspended exhibition in the Castle Keep. Also, at 2pm, find out more about the latest architectural plans to restore Norwich Castle Keep in a talk entitled Gateway to Medieval England from project lead architects Feilden+Mawson. Discover medieval traditions with apprentice stonemasons from the Guild of St Stephen and St George, including a talk by the Guild Master at 11.30am where he shares a master mason's insight into building a medieval castle. Help Norfolk Record Office take the best architectural features from city buildings and blend them into one fabulous junk model creation and finally, find out more about Thomas Browne, a familiar character from the Norwich cityscape.
