Guided Walk - Castle Acre: The Medieval Town and Castle

The village of Castle Acre lies where the ancient Peddar's Way crossed the River Nar. Main roads no longer pass through it, but the remains of a medieval planned town survive here, along with the magnificent castle and the Cluniac priory. Our walk will explore the surroundings of the village as well as its ancient core as we consider the reasons why Castle Acre grew up where it did. Meet by the Bailey Gate in the High Street, Castle Acre. Advance booking essential.

A Beginner's Guide to Fossils

Suitable for beginners, this one-day workshop will use the collections of the Norfolk Museums Service. We will take a romp through the variety of fossils from Norfolk and beyond, from microscopic pollen to elephants. Find out how to collect, curate and identify fossils, how they came to be preserved and what they tell us about our geological past. Have a go at finding and identifying real fossils from the Cromer Forest Bed using a microscope. Please pay when booking, either in person or by post (cheques payable to Norfolk County Council).
